Many and varied jobs since starting work in the late 1950s: ‘Looking for a job - we got the Hinckley Times, go to a café – 100s and 100s of jobs in it at that time’.

‘Midland Red bus, down A5 at five-minutes-past-seven, straight to the café for a
cup of tea, got to Hinckley about half-past-seven, didn’t start work till 8’

‘Parratt’s, closed now, we used to have some laughs there…he [boss] was so funny’

‘I liked being the floater that meant I didn’t get bored…and that comes from moving round from place to place’
